Road Trip 2014, Day 1

It was a long day, but not because of the trip – I had to play for two church services in the morning before leaving, but was on the road about 1:15p with only four hours or so to drive for the day.

I was so happy I wasn’t heading toward New York City when I passed Albany on the NY State Thruway and found that traffic in the other direction was at a virtually dead stop, a three-lane parking lot! Wow, did that ever remind me of commuting into Chicago from Valparaiso, IN that summer in grad school …

Dinner was at McGirk’s Irish Pub in Binghamton, NY; it was a try-it-and-see stop, and now I know to avoid that place in the future. The beer was cold, but there wasn’t much selection and the food was only so-so. And the decor? American Tacky. Ugh.

Day Two will be about 530 miles of driving, ending in Ann Arbor, MI, a place I’ve always heard about but never visited. In fact, most of this trip’s time will be in places in Michigan I’ve never been; I’m hoping to find plenty of scenic spots to test out the new camera!

And now (because I’m writing this the morning of Day Two), it’s time to pack up and hit the road!
