Really? ANOTHER Instrument?

When I was in grad school, I traded accompanying for violin lessons one year. My college organ professor had often said that I needed to learn the violin in order to experience that instrument. So I did. While it wasn’t a bad experience at all, I was hampered by (1) the crappiness of the violin which the school had available for me to play, and (2) the size of my fingers.

It’s great to be able to span a tenth on the keyboard, but all that good stuff just gets in the way on the size of a violin fingerboard. (My teacher said I really should be learning the viola!)

So what’s up now? I am babysitting a cello for the summer and it’s always better for an instrument to be played … so I’m going to see what I can learn on it 🙂

At this point, I’m up to Lightly Row using both first and second position!! That’s quite the accomplishment, in my humble opinion. I’m sure there are plenty of pitfalls to come, so I’m just going to sit back and celebrate my little victory here, small as it may be.
